The first choice in networking sites. For starters, facebook is a lot more professional than its predecessors (Myspace & Friendster). Even institutions worldworld are signing up (museums, non profits). Keep up to date on events going on in your community as well as inform others of whats going on. Give it a shot.

Good for keeping in touch with friends

Myspace has been taken over by spammers, phishers, attention whores, and dummy profiles. It really does little in terms of helping facilitate existing friendships. Facebook, on the other hand, feels much more intimate, personal, and safe. Its a much better way of preserving a "circle of trust" and making sure it doesn't get infiltrated by unwanted "friends".
