If you want your children to love poetry, this is the book to start with. Shel Silverstein has a way with the English language unlike anyone else. His drawing draw the kids in further. Our favorite (that would be my kids and me) is "The Unicorn" (quick, flip to page 76). It is one of the best poems of all time.

I grew up on the books by Shel Silversein, and it still brings back great memories to flip through them... His collections are certainly a keepsake for any household!

Apparently I'm the only person who did not get this book as a kid, but thanks to ThisNext, my daughter enjoys hearing these poems read to her. I try to stick to just one a night so we can make it last.

All kids love Shel Silverstein. Light-hearted, funny poems and illustrations. Great for babysitting, entertaining young relatives or just reading yourselves.
I'm currently taking a Children's Literature course and my teacher says, if you're only going to buy one kids book, buy a Silverstein.

Shel Silverstein is a blast. His stories, poems, and little word games make me laugh, think, reflect and enjoy being. I love hearing them read aloud in a group of kids and adults alike!

Okay, so this is more like age 5 rather than 15, but my love for Shel Silverstein has never faded over the years. I was so excited to give this book to my niece last Christmas, and I can't wait to share it with other future Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout fans over the years...
