So maybe you think Scotch is the only whiskey with the cache of age and extremely high prices? Old Rip Van WInkle found a way to age their bourbon longer than it was thought was wise, and the result was this: a 23-year-old bourbon, bottled in extremely limited quantities. This stuff sells out quickly, despite its price tag. I saw a bottle for $200 at a Bristol Farms, and another at a BevMo for $249. I should've bought the less expensive one; it was probably mis-priced. My point is, if you look hard, you might come across a bottle if you're lucky. Considered the finest bourbon ever made by many respected reviewers, it has spurred some other fine distillers into pushing the age limits on bourbon, and raised the bar for bourbons.

I just purchased Pappy 20 to go along with my Pappy 23 and Pappy 13. All are great but the 20 is almost indescribable. It is by far the best I have ever tasted. It ranks right ahead of Sazarac 18 rye. Buffalo Trace has 5 more Pappy 20's as of Feb 2, 2003 for a price of $135
