This is one of the best illustrated children's books I have read to my kids. It is wrong that Jez Alborough did not earn a Caldecott Award for this book or any of his other books.
Duck appears nice enough as he gets help from bystanders Frog, Sheep and Goat to get his truck out of the muck. They push, they pull and in the end Duck's true colors are shown (pun intended).
The illustrations burst from the page. The frame is broken by the images and pages may contain several frames working together.
The characters are richly drawn with bold lines and vivid colors.
Voices? Yeah, it's got voices.
