libellus' recommendation

Fantastic magazine covering asian and asian-american pop culture, including art and artists, skating, vinyl, today, et cetera. I've been a subscriber for a couple of years now and I always find something new to covet in each issue. I've found a number of great new artists in the pages of this magazine.

They have retail stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York- you HAVE to go if you're in one of those cities. You will be blown away. And probably broke.

I've been a subscriber for years and each issue never fails to deliver something fresh new and decidely modern asian youth-culture! This magazine is the perfect primer for anyone who is ready to move away from the basic "Anime" world into something more substantial.

I am personally, completely addicted to everything kozyndan!

kozyndan is a Los Angeles-based team of artist/illustrators known for their digitally painted pencil drawings of contemporary urban cityscapes and surreal interior spaces. Comprised of husband and wife Dan and Kozue Kitchens, kozyndan creates works that often reflect their affection and repulsion for the rampant urban sprawl and technological overload that characterize everyday city life. Their detailed drawings portray realistic urban panoramas, which on closer inspection reveal often absurd scenarios. According to Dan, the pair's work portrays their unease with and love of the modern world.

KozynDan, a husband and wife teem, simply rock. I have a few of their posters and have always been impressed by their style and quirkiness.

I can't help but think that this print may have been "inspired" a little too much by a poster that McRay Magleby did over 20 years ago.

http://www.art.utah.edu/faculty/illust/magelby/MAGELBY5.html

Magleby won the 1986 “World’s Most Memorable Poster,”– the Oscar for poster art- for his poster titled “Wave of Peace,” which commemorates the 40th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.

I dunno if it is enough to call it a rip-off, but bunnies instead of doves? Stinks of unoriginality in order to make some money. (via McRay Magleby)
