You could go the scratch way and mix your own sugar, salt, sake, rice vinegar mixture for the rice...but WHY? Aji Mirin has the sugar and sake part down. And even if you don't use aji-mirin for sushi rice, it's a basic ingredient you should have if you cook Asian food at home.

Add 2 Tbsp to every 2 c (uncooked) white rice. (via Products on TasteSpotting)
