Wow. Gorgeous.

This ultra-light, ultra slow flying plane makes it possible to fly inside normal size rooms. It isn't cheap (~$300), but it supposed to be virtually indestructible and comes with a custom aluminum carrying case. There is a cheaper version, but it is made of materials that would be easier to damage.

The plane recharges off the transmitter which runs on AA batteries.

This plane is expensive, but it's worth every dime! It takes practice to fly, but not much. You can crash it without fear of breaking it. I noticed in the article there was some concern over the fact that the battery would fall off, but this turns out to be a benefit. Why? Because the majority of the mass of this plane when flying is the battery. In the case of a crash, the battery is designed to fall off. When it does, it takes most of the momentum with it keeping the craft from serious damage. This is a BRILLIANT product and is LOTS of fun! Get one!

as cogg mentions " it ain't cheap" ~ more the reason it makes a fun gift for the designer geek with everything. And possibly the best distraction for *most* ages. Gorgeous too.
