TiVo finally makes it affordable to record in HD. This unit is launching with a 160GB HD that will records 20hrs HD/180hrs SD, two cable card slots (2 shows at a time), storage expansion via eSATA, and 720p/1080i. All that jazz for only $300. (via Acquire Magazine)

You might consider a Tivo. Besides connecting to your TV and providing a nice way to record cable (including HD) it can connect to an existing computer you have on your network and pull over images, audio and video (can pull from a Mac or a PC).
Recommended for wiredd who wants a small computer to connect to an HDTV, using I Want on Facebook.
