This mask was designed to act like a hepa filter air cleaner... You can buy replacement filters. If you are super sensitive to dust, this is a good way to go. Otherwise I recommend bandana or scarves over the construction dusk masks. You can layer your scarf as needed. For me the construction masks leave too much gap around the edges.

How anyone survives a week on the playa without a dust mask is beyond me. Once the wind kicks up, the dust starts flying. My fellow campers told me dust masks were unnecessary and wore only bandanas - but those were subpar for me. I definitely enjoyed having a dust mask once a friendly fellow gifted one to me.
This mask is specifically designed with HEPA like filters to keep your lungs free of fine dust particles. Super comfy and super effective. Once you have this, some goggles, and some nasal spray - you can take on the playa mano y mano.
