Bart Bettencourt’s interest in furniture design stems from the days when his father, a contractor, took him to job sites in the Boston area. About four years ago, after working on exhibition installations in the woodshop of the Guggenheim Museum, Bettencourt opened his own furniture design and custom-cabinet-making shop in Brooklyn. He uses only green building products such as bamboo (considered the ultimate renewable hardwood substitute). "My work is a marriage between innovative design and protecting nature," he says. Bettencourt’s furniture can be fully customized. He also welcomes commissions. (via Elements of Living)
