As per Stephen Metcalf of Slate, the KitchenAid attachment has some advantages over an all-in-one machine like the Cuisinart because it has "the adjustable speed, allowing you to whip up a lighter, more aerated batter; and the mixer makes the initial batter-making—whipping the eggs into the sugar, then mixing in milk and cream—that much easier."

MMM ice cream...this accessory turns your KitchenAid mixer into an Ice Cream Maker! Two tools in one! If you've never had homemade ice cream, it's time to try it. I have made my favorite with this attachment: Chocolate Chili Ice Cream. Trust me, it's delicious. Ice Cream Makers are a great gift for anyone. This might be my favorite kitchen aid stand mixer attachment. I love ice cream, especially the freshly made kind, but I've always felt owning an ice cream maker on it's own was a little frivilous. Now I can have it both ways, homemade ice cream through my mixer without having to have a seperate machine.
