Oh how I love this movie. Alan Ball became my hero even more when he went on to create Six Feet Under. Excellent characters, exceptional storyline, amazing actors and a haunting score. All elements of a memorable movie watching experience. One of my favorites.

This drama about dysfunctional familes in suburbia stars Kevin Spacey as a man in midlife crisis who abruptly quits his job, takes up bodybuilding, and lusts after his teenage daughter's friend and Annette Bening as his high-strung wife who's ready to snap. The film closes with a rapid dénouement, which reveals that everything is not how it appears.

Kevin Spacey (Lester Burnham) stuns his family and himself when he loses his job and finds a life, because everyone (his daughter included) are convinced he is just one big loser. By the end of the movie, he finally knows he is anything but.

This was such a gorgeous movie with a human touch to it that for days after I was still thinking about it. This package is a double feature with american beauty and the virgin suicides.
