So, it was quite few years ago now...January of 2006, Animal Care and Control of New York hosted a champagne, hors devours, and silent auction get together to raise money for no kill shelter initiatives at the Ritz-Carlton Central Park. I paid out the nose for tickets, because it was definitely for a good cause.
It was officially called the “first” annual ACES (Animal Care—Exceptional
Spirit) Awards fundraiser for Animal Care & Control of NYC.
It was great, but what's my point????
Tom Chappell of Tom's of Maine was there accepting a Corporate Integrity Award on behalf of his company. I was able to speak with him and I was thrilled to tell him that I had been using his products for some time. I told him how great I thought his company was for not testing on animals! He politely listened as I blabbed on and on...that makes him ONE patient person!!
Well, a few weeks after the award ceremony I read in the paper that Toms of Maine was being sold to Colgate-Palmolive. I was DEVASTATED!!! I didn't understand why on earth they would sell out to such a huge corporate entity...THAT TESTS ON ANIMALS AS COMMON PRACTICE!!
Well, I was turned off...like a light switch.
I didn't buy Tom's of Maine products until very recently. My best friend pointed out that although Tom's may have sold out, his products would be fundamentally the same. She said that by purchasing Tom's products I would in a way be telling Colgate-Palmolive that I didn't want their crap, but that I wanted responsible products instead.
She's just too smart :)
So....I started buying from Tom's again. No disappointment. They still work great. Fresh breath...clean teeth...NO ANIMAL TESTING :)
Can't go wrong there!!! (via The Greater Green)

Toms of Maine toothpaste is fabulous. It has flouride, is ADA approved, but is organic and natural! My mouth feels so clean and fresh after using it, way better feeling than the major brand toothpastes. They make toothpaste for kids, and ones that aren't your typical mint-based ones for people who don't like mint! Very much worth a try if you're considering switching to organic and natural beauty products.
