These are great for two reasons. First, they are brilliant works of art in the form of dishware. Secondly, they are an exercise in sustainability because they redesign and resurface used or unwanted ceramics to create new awesomely modern pieces.

i love her dishware set. the designs feel fresh and modern and up-to-date. some of my favorite are the astronaut, dandy, fleur-de-lis, pinup girl and cassette tape. the concept, called rehabilitation dishware, means that she hunts for used or unwanted pieces which she then reglazes and refires with her own designs. its an excellent example of innovative recycling combined with great design.

Old and overstock dishware—snapped up by the artist from thrift shops, garage sales, and reject piles—is first given a makeover, then reglazed and refired. Repurposing an object is one of the greenest things you can do—nothing new is created, just transformed.

You know all those plates you see at garage sales, in thrift shops, in your grandma's 60's kitchen? Well, these are them, reworked. Sarah Cihat comes across these used, rejected plates and reworks them into something you just have to have.

I love the look of re-used ceramics. It's definitely an art form! Good Find.
