Rustic Canyon Winebar

There just ain't many real good restaurants west of the 405. Rustic Canyon reminds me of a neighborhood-version of Tom Colicchio's Craft and now I go every other week. Clean presentation with a focus on fresh ingredients. The menu changes every month, but the stalwarts like the Moroccan Salad and Roasted Chicken stick around. The problem is you can't get a reservation for weeks in the small, former Chinese restaurant on Wilshire. The wine by the glass list is solid, but I wish it would change up a little more often. They keep the 3 large community tables open for walk-ins, so give it a try.

It is easy to understand why it is hard to get a table without a reservation here. The food is excellent, fresh ingredients, creative combinations, and organic free range meats. I tend to get bored of places quickly, but I don't think I run the danger of that happing at Rustic Canyon, the menu is always new. The wine selection by the glass is great, giving you the opportunity to try a couple of different ones with dinner. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, answering questions honestly, giving personal recommendations, and avoiding a usual haughtiness that seems to plague a lot of the nicer restaurants in Los Angeles. If you see the fried green tomatoes on the menu get them!
