"gypsy punk" is pretty damn accurate. raucous, vodka-fueled mayhem and merriment. lots of accordion (which i still maintain is maybe the single most underrated western musical instrument) and full-throated choruses. if you don't want to get up and dance, you might not be human (or you have broken/no legs, maybe).
oh yes, the band also had a cameo in the movie version of 'everything is illuminated.' the band's lead singer played alex and was probably the highlight of the two hours.

So this band calls itself a "gypsy punk" band. And upon listening, you'll find that is the perfect definition. Gogol Bordello is unlike anything you've ever heard, unless you frequently listen to music that incorporates accordion and violin with punk music. Or if you've seen the movie "Everything is Illuminated," you've seen the lead singer, who's from the Ukraine, play the hilarious character Alex. The band also did the soundtrack for that movie.

It's nearly impossible to believe the amount of energy these guys pour into their live shows, and it comes across in their albums as well. Gypsy punk sounds like such an odd combination, but it's infectious and will keep you moving well past wehn you thought you should drop.
