The site says "Using a groundbreaking, patent-pending process, tires are taken from landfills and meticulously transformed into a high grade sheet rubber capable of being stitched. The tires are ground up so finely that the chemical bonds are broken. This rubber powder then undergoes a "vulcanizing" process, which means it has been treated with heat and pressure, thereby imparting greater strength, elasticity and durability."
