I am one of those super-pale people (I make Nicole Kidman look bronzed!) and I live in Los Angeles. Therefore, I am an expert about sunscreens. I highly recommend Kiehl's Ultra Protection Water-Based Sunscreen SPF 25 as a base sunscreen/moisturizer for everyday use -- it's perfectly light and lovely for face and neck (and of course, hands and arms...etc.). And if you wear makeup, it absolutely disappears underneath it, without feeling like you're wearing plastic (like so many moisturizer/sunscreens do)!

Of course, if you're going to be out in the sun for any real length of time (or especially at the beach), remember to re-apply frequently. This is water-based, not waterproof.
