This is the first thing I would recommend to everyone, as an incredibly easy way to conserve power and lower your electric bill without even trying.
We've replaced 90% of the standard bulbs in our house with these compact flourescent bulbs; our power usage has already dropped to half of what it was. The bulbs work in standard or recessed fixtures, and come in varied brightness levels. We have the "soft" light in the bedroom, for a more relaxing atmosphere.
Best of all, one bulb lasts for years, literally. So, the savings over time will grow exponentially!
