The Sun Jar is an ingenious and rather charming lighting concept from designer Tobias Wong. Just as jam jars store jam, the Sun Jar stores sunshine. You sit the jar on your windowsill during the day, then when it gets dark the Sun Jar automatically turns itself on and glows with the day's sunshine. The jar contains a solar charging panel and low voltage bulb with a sumptuous orange glow, and an auto light-sensitive on/off switch. What a great gift this will be and just £19.99.

These remind me of the jars of fireflies we used to catch in the summer. They're awesome because they're solar powered (and the panel is very well-hidden here). Hang them in the yard and you have a great environment for hanging out. Like the fact I don't have to worry about outdoor electricity!

I was SO excited when I received my sun jar (kudos to delight.com for the speedy delivery!) and I immediately left it by the window to charge. Since I opened it later in the day, I was afraid that it wouldn't get enough sunlight to charge, but after getting about the last hour of the day's sunlight my sunjar lit up! Now I'm so enamoured by it. I'm in my 20s, but this little thing just brightens my day (or should I say night?) every time I look at it! And the best part of it is that it really feels like it's sunlight in a jar since it's powered by sunlight. love the idea, love the name, love my jar

MikeNYC's recommendation
Originally designed by Tobias Wong, this masterpiece of a jar is ingenious. The idea is to leave the jar either outside, near the window or under some decent artificial light, to collect energy from the sun throughout the day via the solar cell. When it turns dark, the jar gives a warm ambient and relaxing glow. Makes a great bathroom light. We all know how blinding it is to turn on the light in the middle of the night!

Simply beautiful. A solid, frosted glass mason jar with a lightbulb and sensor inside. When the scenery turns from light to dusk, the jar automatically switches on, emitting a soft, warm, orangey glow. When daylight comes, it turns itself off. Waterproof too! It's just got such a beautiful solid feel, and such a warm, comforting light. These would be great for your (imaginary?) rustic vacation home's garden.

Some hold jam, some hold beetroot, coffee, fruit even nuts and bolts but you’ve never seen a jam jar that stores sunlight…..until now. Some clever gadgetry and amazingly imaginative thinking have given us the ability to have sunlight after the sun goes down. Ok we’ll explain. A solar panel in the lid of the jar is connected to some rechargeable batteries inside the jar. Place the jar in direct sunlight during the day (on your window sill or in the garden does the job just fine) and when the sun goes down…. As if by magic your jar starts to glow. At only 16 cm tall and 10 cm wide you’ll have no problem finding space for some new accessories around the home and even though its not too large you still get 5 hours of mood lighting from a full day in the sun. The frosted effect of the jar creates the ultimate in soft sun like mood lighting. Making Sun Jar ideal in the home or garden, on its own or in clusters to provide natural laid back ambience.

I'm not entirely sure how the Sunjar works, but it's a cool product nonetheless. Simply leave it in the sun all day and it will self-illuminate at night for up to 5 hours. I'm assuming there is a solar powered bulb in there or something. Intriguing.

I love ambient light in my home. So when I found this Sun Jar, I got so excited. I can finally have a piece of sunlight during nighttime! The Sun Jar's lid has a solar panel that is connected to rechargeable batteries. How does it work? Simple. Place the jar under direct sunlight. By nightfall, you will surely be amazed to see that it will "magically" emit a soft glow of light. Have a piece of the sun with this Sun Jar!

Price $ 48,00 Made with a traditional Mason jar and high tech energy efficient lighting! Captured inside the jar are a highly efficient solar cell, rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamps. When the jar is placed in sunlight the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the three LED lamps inside the jar. The light is diffused by the frosted jar and give the appearance of sunlight emitting from the (warm coloured LED lights are used to give a more natural and warm light). You may have noticed that there is no switch on the sun jar - in fact there are no visible controls at all - there is a clever light sensor inside that automatically activates the lights when it gets dark or lights are turned out!* Mason Jars are not only beautiful but by their very nature they are completely water tight - so the Sun Jar can happily be left outside in any weather conditions. A perfect garden light or night light for a kids bedroom. *there is an override switch inside the lid to turn off the light at night and conserve battery life.

This looks so cute... what a good idea
can you imagine how romantic and sweet a room would look with about six to ten of these in it--or an outdoor sitting area. nice.
I'm going to buy this for my father for a Christmas gift, who as a boy used to camp out in the dark in the forests of Arkansas with just a tiny candle covered with some glass. Maybe it looked like this, I don't know. He's a nolstalgic kinda guy, so I think he'll really like it. :-)
