The California Academy of Sciences is one of the oldest museums of natural history in the US. If you live in San Francisco or have visited Golden Gate Park in recent months, you've seen the building's -- opposite the DeYoung Museum -- gradual transformation into a totally new environment. Paricularly notable has been the building's terraforming, with plants being installed on the roof. Partly institutional history and partly a document of ingenious green design and building techniques, this is a book with an eye to the future.
