Unfortunately, going two blocks down and hanging a right won't get you to every destination. So if you have an imperfect sense of direction like myself, consider getting one of these clever GPS navigators. A consumer favorite, the Garmin Nuvi 350 is bundled with an MP3/audiobook player, photo viewer, and turn-by-turn voice guidance.

I borrowed this from my aunt recently for a trip to Austin Texas. Overall, we were very satisfied. It was great about finding address, except when they were on HWYs like FM2628 or something like that. Usually, we could do a work around by searching by attraction - restaurant - etc. One time it didn't work was for a winery search. I liked that it finds the nearest gas station for you. The navigation is easy to use but I wish it remembered recently used cities, not just places. Worked great having our cousin's house saved as a favorite. I wish there was a way to adjust volume--maybe there is but I couldn't find it. I think it goes for about $200, which is fair. Not sure if it's worth $250.

I have a pretty good sense of direction, but every time I visit LA I become navigationally challenged--especially when it comes to trying to avoid the traffic. This trip (I've been here for 3 days, now) has been a breeze thanks to the Garmin Nuvi I've been demoing.
The Nüvi ia a touch-screen GPS device that's small, light and pretty easy to use. All of the maps for the US are built in, so there's no need to download regions before your trip. There's even storage space for MP3s and Audio Books. The on-screen graphics have the right balance of simplicity and information, and the optional spoken directions are critical. The text-to-speech engine does a pretty good job at pronouncing different street names, though is does have the occasional blunder--instead of instructing to exit at Bundy Drive North it said "Bundy Doctor North." Wrong, but forgivable. I haven't demo'd many portable GPS devices, so it's hard to make comparisons--regardless, I like the Nüvi and I'm glad to have it around this week. (via CoolHunting)
