I have not yet, but would very much like, to read this book by Stanley Alpert

“The Birthday Party” is Mr. Alpert’s harrowing, often hilarious reconstruction of what should have been a garden-variety New York street crime. He is kidnapped and taken to an ATM and forced to withdraw money. But the gang-leader realizes he has over $100,000 in his account so they keep him while concocting a plan to get it.

They picked the wrong dude. Alpert is an assistant federal attourney who memorizes every detail in hopes of one day using it to prosecute his captors. Meanwhile, he "employs every psychological trick in the book to keep his captors from killing him." (via Boing Boing)
