Isaac, 42, has divorced Jill. She is now living with another woman, Connie, and is writing a book in which she will reveal some very private points of their relationship. Isaac has a love affair with Tracy, 17, when he meets Mary, the mistress of his best friend Yale. Yale is already married to Emily.

This ever delightful movie stars Woody Allen as Isaac Davis, Diane Keaton as Mary Wilkie, Michael Murphy as Yale and Mariel Hemingway as Tracy.

One of my favorite Woody Allen... and there are many!

It goes like this - break them in with Annie Hall...but if they "get" Manhattan, then they're a "keeper".

Absolutely my favorite New York movie. This is one of the few items I took to Italy, to remind me of my beloved hometown. It's a classic love story about a confused and awkward man (Woody Allen - duh), his estranged lesbian wife (Meryl Streep), his teenage gilfriend (Mariel Hemingway), and his more difficult, intellectual love interest (an absolutely amazing Diane Keaton) with whom he starts a relationship after she's jilted by his best friend (Michael Murphy), who happens to be married. Whew! Hemingway's performance is almost as heart-wrenching as the loving black and white photography in the opening sequence. As fireworks explode over the East River, and Leonard Gershwin plays in the background, Woody Allen's voice begins: "Chapter one..." (via John_and_Rose)
