I bought the latest album by Anthony Gonzalez aka M83 because I had heard some good buzz and I already own M83's 2nd and 3rd albums. I was unexpectedly given a $10 iTunes gift certificate from ThisNext and checked it out.
Recorded with Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Sugar Cubes, Cocteau Twins, Suede) and Ewan Pearson (Tracey Thorn, The Rapture, Ladytron) "Saturdays = Youth" retains the sonic "wall of sound" atmospherics of previous work... but the soundscapes seem more focussed... and more mature... which is kind of ironic considering "youth" is the subject matter.
Vocals are haunting and ethereal... with some trademark spoken word from a young girl that is disturbing in a nice way. There is a real 80's vibe about the songwriting... with tracks like "Graveyard Girl" and "Couleurs" standing out as exceptional.
This is the sound of now... something special... something immersive and inviting... something rich and yet delicate.
A wonderful album... well worth checking out.
Thanks for the gift... money well spent!

Anthony Gonzalez simply keeps getting better. His latest, which was Inspired by John Hughes movies (& how can you go wrong there) is basically a heightened, more emotional version of what he's always done - soul-squeezingly gorgeous music that is like nothing else you've ever heard.
These sounds will make your heart grow & your blood glow. Whatever you're listening to, stop to hear this album...your veins will thank us both.

M83 is experimentation at it's finest. These tracks will take you above and beyond. This is great music to listen to while studying, reading, drawing, anything!
Upon hearing M83's track "We Own The Sky," I wasn't sure whether or not I liked it. After a few days, I had it on repeat while I was thinking of it's meaning. I think M83 introduced a new form of experimental indie to all it's listeners. You will not be disappointed by them!
