Mylar embroidery is about the newest embroidery technique around. Well, I had to try it out. The mylar picks up all of the colors around it and, well, bling. It has been compared to metallic thread, but I think it is even shinier than that. This patch is 4.25 inches wide and 2.5 inches high. The leaves and patch are outlined in gold. The mylar embroidery uses purple thread and the background fabric is a forest green. Yep, purple, green and gold -- Mardi Gras colors. The patch can be used on anything that you can imagine. It can be a small pocket or a patch. It's up to your imagination. Or, use it as a non-permanent patch to be a pocket one day and a patch another. I call this a designer pocket. How to attach: The patch is not very thick, but it is sturdy. You can sew it or glue it. If you decide to glue it, you can use a tacky glue that comes off in the wash and use the patch in a variety of ways. Or, you could use a permanent glue. This all came about because I have friends that simply don't sew but they love to shine. They or you can put glue around the inside edges and not glue the top and put it on whatever you like for a pocket. Glue all the way around for a patch. Permanent glue stays forever; non-permanent glue allows you to change around. Follow the instructions on whatever glue you use. The patch, itself, may be washed and dried -- it is not dry cleanable. I did my first mylar embroidery on a towel back in October or November, 2010. I gave my husband instructions to use the towel for every dirty job he could find. We have washed and dried that towel many times since then. The towel is looking a bit worn but the mylar embroidery is as pretty today as the day I embroidered it.
