I loved the film version of "The Golden Compass ". I can't wait for New Line Cinema to film the rest of the trilogy, and I also want to read everything that Philip Pullman has written for His Dark Materials, I guess I'm a fan, ok... But check this out--to mark the release of The Golden Compass movie in Japan, Japanese jeweller Tanaka Kikinzoku has unveiled an 18 carat gold alethiometer which his firm has developed at a cost of $280,000 US.
