Capogiro Gelato : Fine Artisanal Gelato and Sorbetto

I'm one of those weirdos that loves basil, chilis or chestnuts in my ice cream (that could be made out of goat's milk), so Capogiro's eclectic menu fits my palate. But they also carry top notch versions of classic flavors.
One might think it is a lot of trouble to mail order gelato. I'm going to tell you something: this is totally worth it.
We hosted a party and served a choice of 6 of these babies for dessert. Not a bit was left, even of the lime cilantro sorbet -- and that was tried by the guy who claimed he hates sorbet.
Drat. Now I want some gelato, and there's none in the freezer.
Capogiro has two storefronts in Philadelphia, if you are lucky enough to live there or visit. I'm so jealous of those who do because they get to try the really weird stuff, like beet and orange gelato. (via Capogiro)

Superb gelato. Marvelous flavors. The prices are a bit steep, but while you may be suspicious while waiting in line, once you taste the freely proffered samples, you'll be convinced. Available in Philadelphia, some grocery stores listed on the website and in pints, online.
Here's a partial flavor list to give you an idea:
Pineapple with mint
Avocado
Burnt Sugar
Persimmon
Cappuccino
Cashew
Mexican Chocolate
Cranberry and Apple
Dulce De Leche
Milk gelato
Lemon curd Yogurt
Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla
Marshmallow
Pomegranate
Blood Orange
Walnut
Nutella
Pistacchio
Ruby Red Grapefruit with Campari
Rosemary Honey Goat Milk
Thai Coconut Milk
Turkish Coffee

Summer and Ice cream (well.. in this case.. gelato.. if you want to get technical).. This combination does not need more explanation. And Capogiro gelato need only a spoon of the right flavor (I understand how one would never enjoy horse-meat flavor ice cream no matter how wonderful the texture is) to convince you to open up your wallet and plunge down $10.xx for a pint. For gelato that are smooth, velvety, creamy, rich and yet never too sweet, consider it money well spent!
I'm not lucky enough to have a Capogiro gelato shop opened nearby.. but fortunately, Balducci's here carries a few flavors. And what flavors! My favorites are;
Pistacchio Siciliano
Lemon Yogurt
Pineapple Mint
Blood Orange
