From the first few seconds of "The Beast and Dragon Adored", with all the strange, sort of ambient noise rolling around behind the bass line until the song kicks in, you know you're in for something different. Somehow Spoon always seems to make the catchiest non-commercial pop music. It's pretty and catchy without being overly hooky and driven. They use sparse arrangements and great vocal melodies to carry along these gems.
