I loved this movie as a kid, and remember how shocked my parents were for paying $3 a piece to see this in its first run! It still holds up very well, unlike the Sound of Music, which now seems so - schmaltzy. Julie Andrews won Best Actress Oscar, and deservedly so - watch her as she departs from the Banks's home. Dick Van Dyke has a dual role as Bert the chimney sweep-cum-sidewalk chalk artist and elderly Mr. Dawes of Dawes, Tomes, Mousely, Grubbs Fidelity Fiduciary Bank. Also notable are Ed Wynn as Uncle Albert (I Love to Laugh) and Reginald Owen as Admiral Boom, who fires cannonballs from his balcony. There's a score full of terrific and memorable songs, including "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "Chim chim cheree"

This is just a classic that no kid should ever miss. It's just part of the rquirements of being a kid!

Remember back in the day when children in movies were ugly? What happened? Now kids in movies are little mini models. I hate that. Kids are suppose to be ugly and awkward. Then they blossom. Sorry, I'm still mad at China over that whole thing...
Anyway, there are ugly children in this movie. They sing songs. They dance and make pouty sour faces until MARY POPPPPINSSS (Oprah voice) flies into town to sprinkle their lives with magic!
This movie is evidence that EVERYONE was high in the 60's.

Oh man - such a great movie. Julie Andrews is lovely as ever as the slightly sinister golden hearted Nanny.
