Anything Elizabeth Taylor does, she does well. This is a great movie. If you are in to the old classics, be sure to put this on your shelf.

In New Orleans in 1937, a rich widow, Mrs. Venable, plans to fund a hospital building for a state asylum, if Dr. Cukrowicz will perform a lobotomy on her niece Catherine. Mrs. Venable is distraught over the death of her son Sebastian last summer in Europe. Sebastian and his mother used to travel abroad together every summer, except the previous summer, when he took his cousin Catherine instead. Catherine appeared to go mad the day that Sebastian died under mysterious circumstances.

The film stars Elizabeth Taylor as Catherine Holly, Katharine Hepburn as Mrs. Violet Venable, Montgomery Clift as Dr. Cukrowicz, Albert Dekker as Dr. Lawrence J. Hockstader and Mercedes McCambridge as Mrs. Grace Holly.

A disturbing controversial theme in this southern gothic melodrama and some of the best on-screen performances you'll ever see. Do not miss!

I've seen this film 3-4x... it's amazing that they got it made/past the censors. Psychologically more powerful than The Manchurian Candidate. (via John_and_Rose)
