Like a starry sky at midnight these earrings are so alluring. The Bohemia glass beads reflect shades of indigo, violet, gold and forest green. The eco copper has been oxidized to achieve a depth that complements the glass in a contrasting manner. Using a mandrel, lengths of pure copper were formed into loops that became the base of these dangling hoop earrings. The loops were forged using a hammer and bench block, paying particular attention to symmetry. Once the skeleton of the hoop earrings had taken shape and I was satisfied with their overall appearance I moved to my workshop where I oxidised the copper using a minute amount of liver of sulphur compound, this process transformed the copper from a soft rose gold hue to a rich antiqued copper. I then removed the residual patina using superfine steel wool and transferred the hoops to a rotary tumbler with a small volume of water, metal shot mix and pure soap flakes where they were gently buffed to a smooth and glossy finish. The curvaceous ear wires were made by hand in my studio. They are perfectly rounded and uniform in size. Each was made with pure copper that was shaped, attentively, hammered and then oxidized.
