You have to tip your hat to Sidney Portier. His films challenged societies norms regarding race relations. Especially in a time where physical danger for doing so was a prevelent threat. A Patch of Blue is about a man who befriends a blind woman. Of course, the woman can't see, so she can't judge him by anything other than his character. Soon after, the woman's mother sees them in the park and disapprovingly informs her daughter that he's a black man. (via Amazon)

This film had me crying. Get some tissues before you see it. A young sheltered blind woman is befriended by a young man who shows her a different world. Gripping drama that will really pull at your heart. (via Amazon)
