Inland Empire has definitly changed my life, mostly as a filmmaker. I have been a big fan of lynch for many many years. I was really excited to hear that this was going to be playing in Los Angeles for its first run. I was able to go on the first day of its release on December 15th, 2006, and when the light went up, I was completely speechless. There were so many questions to be asked, it was overwhelming. I live in the Inland Empire, so I had a two hour drive home with my friend who had seen it with me (LA traffic sucks). We could not stop talking about it. I mean, the reason why we couldn't stop talking about it wasnt because we were madly in love with it then, but we had been subconsciously compelled to talk about it for hours and hours after. It was as if we were under a spell. It was mesmerizing. I didnt know what this meant then, but as we talked and talked for hours and hours about the film, i thought to myself, "have i ever had a discussed or talked about a film with someone for this long?" Sure, i had thought about a film that long, but have i ever really found another person (who by the way isnt really that much into film) to talk about it with before? I mean, I absolutely love films that make you want to think, and make you want to talk, and if a film is able to continuously provide you with completely fresh ideas and new discoveries/theories even 5 hours after you watch it, then that film must be really special. That's a lot of thinking. And believe me, i dreamt about the film for 2 weeks straight, before going to my 2nd viewing out of the 4 times i have watched it. My friend who really wasnt that much into film before seeing INLAND EMPIRE, watched it with me all for times, and now she has decided to become a screenwriter. Its amazing how a film can change a person's life. I LOVE THIS FILM 100%, and i can say that with absolute confidence now, since i have had much time to 'figure it out.' This film has proven many things to me: narrative structure is way overrated, any filmmaker can go out, buy an inexpensive digital camcorder and make a worthy film, and that the academy has their heads up their asses for not giving Laura Dern a nomination. SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! There are many other levels of this film that have made a huge impact on how i view cinema now, that if i were to write them down, i would have to make a book about it. So you might as well just go out and see it for yourself, because its not really important for you to know how much of an impact it made one me, but how much it will make an impact on you. You must experience it for yourself in order to grasp how great of an accomplishment this is for cinema. This was a huge inspiration, and not just as a filmmaker, but as a thinker. It really expanded my mind, or as David would say, "expanded the container." This is Lynch at his BEST. David, you are my hero.
PS. I WANT THIS POSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD!!! Well, maybe not more than ANYTHING in the world, but its up there pretty high, next to a film print of INLAND EMPIRE itself. (via Alyson)

David Lynch is a cinematic genuis that doesnt follow the rules of the mainstream. This is a poster that stands for independence in the boxed up world of movies and true creativity from the best director of our time. While Lynch is having the difficult time of distributing his picture because he refuses to cut down his artwork to please the business of american distributers because they dont think we can follow a three hour long art movie. Lynch is distributing his film himself. Support Independent Film! (via Alyson)
