Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre -The Complete Collection Gift Set
This is another love that goes back to long before my teen years...but I'm sure I came back to it during a very Courtney Love-informed resurgence in fairy tale obsession at some point in my adolescence. All the 26 episodes of Faerie Tale Theatre (originally on Showtime in the early 80s) are so classic and so beautifully shot, with such genius casting: Jeff Goldblum as The Big Bad Wolf in "Three Little Pigs," Mick Jagger in "The Nightingale," Paul Reubens as Pinocchio, Susan Sarandon in "Beauty & The Beast," and so on and on and on...It's a treasure that I would love to see unearthed for kids right now. Pure magic.
Magical! An all-star ensemble cast brings 26 fairy tales to life in Shelly Duvall's "Fairy Tale Theatre." Inspired casting (think PeeWee Herman as Pinnochio, Mick Jagger as the Emperor in "The Nightingale", Alan Arkin and Art Carney as the crooked tailors in "The Emperor's New Clothes) and considered retellings make these gems a great pick for kids 4-9 (although some might be a little scary for your littlest tikes). You might even enjoy watching them yourself more than five times. Plus, with 5 disks there's plenty of variety.
