Email, photos, movies, e-book reader, all with just a touch. One of the nicest features is the 10-hour battery life, especially for travel. There's a 30-pin Dock connector, a speaker, a microphone, Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi and optional 3G, as well as an accelerometer and a compass. Optional keyboard dock, camera connection kit, and Apple-designed case. Some downsides: still stuck with AT&T 3G, no camera (no video chats), no multi-tasking, or Flash support.

I was hoping that it would run Photoshop and Illustrator, and that it would be easy to use for drawing and sketching. Oh well... what was I thinking, after all it's is Triquarter not a sketch pad.

I'll be honest, I was kind of let down by the iPad. Missing flash support is a pretty big downside when they (Apple) are touting that this device will replace your laptop. Sure, with HTML5 on the horizion, maybe flash will be used less and less, but it is still integrated in way too many websites to leave off a large device like this. You should take a look at the JooJoo if you are interested in similar functionality minus the 3G and the Apps. Hopefully iPad V2 will solve these issues.

I see it as a more glorified e-book reader. While being back-lit, it'll cause more strain on the eye. It has more entertainment options with the inclusion of video and music. I am curious though if it'll support Netflix streaming or Hulu. Having only YouTube and Apple video purchases is extremely limiting and expensive. Coming from the higher education industry, we look at these devices and their application in the classroom more than anything.

I would rather use a kindle for ebook reader. Lets wait for the HP touch, hope this time they will make it..

If anyone besides Apple release this, people would be bawling with joy. However, our expectations are just too high. No way around it, this is totally cool -- especially for the price point. Me though, I think I'll wait for 2nd gen. It's bound to be better!

I keep calling this the iTouch Maxi. I really do not need another portal to the web that I spend too much time on anyway. Let's be honest though...once the iPad begins to appear in the wild, I am going to go insane for my own. I keep hoping Apple releases a laptop with a Blu-ray drive since my PowerBook G4 is on it's last leg.

It may just be a really big iPod touch, but it's a much better, bigger iPod touch. And at $499, I really don't know how you could resist.

Apple's great new idea. I don't mind having a big I-phone, called an I-Pad (you know what I mean, features not calling) for my Birthday and Chinese New Year.

Apple does it again. By taking time to get it right Apple has defined the level of quality for digital readers, PDA's, and touch screen computers though their smartly crafted iPad. Personally I'm attracted to the graphic interfaces Apple has provided for the iPad apps, they even skinned You Tube so that it elevates the look and feel of the streaming video content experience. I still want a pen device so I can draw, maybe that will come later...

Sadly, I am tethered to the internet all day. An iPhone driving to office, my desktop at work, my laptop at home and now on an iPad (recognizing the addiction is the first step towards assistance). I can't say that you need to get an iPad right away. It is not a necessary item for your daily life, but what tech item is. Don't get me wrong, I can't put this thing down. It is an amazing device. Earlier, I was watching a movie on Netflix as I took my evening bath while I read a magazine. That is amazing in itself as well as too much information. When I was a child watching reruns of the original Star Trek series, as if it were new, I would not have imagined my own 'communicator' iPhone or iPad 'tri-corder' in 2010. Sent from my iPad

Just like a big iPhone! But without being able to call anyone. Still sounds like a good product to compete with netbooks.

The main thing I would use this for is as a portfolio, to show photos to clients and potential clients. It would be perfect for that. Beyond that, I would use it as an e-reader and portable movie player.

I spent the weekend playing with a new Apple iPad and plan to keep it. It's become the tool I use to read email and browse the web while lounging around the house. However, even if I had a 3G model, I probably would not bother lugging it around away from home. Pro: - Browsing the web is fantastic. - Reading email is a great experience and typing short responses is fine. - It's an amazing Kindle. - Watching movies and TV shows is good as long as you only have 1-2 people who need to see the screen. - Battery lasts forever. I'll probably plug it in overnight, but won't have to worry about using it too much during the day. Con: - I had to borrow somebody else's Windows computer before I could even start using the iPad. You have to install iTunes on a Win/Mac computer and connect the iPad before you can do anything with it. An iPad by itself is useless and there is no support for iTunes on Ubuntu. - Typing on the keyboard is possible, but it's nowhere as easy as on a real keyboard or even the keyboard on my Treo phone. The large keyboard in landscape mode is too small for touch typing. The small keyboard in portrait mode is too large for fast thumb typing. - There is only a single login account on the iPad. I can't let other people use it without giving them access to all my content and all my automatically logged in web accounts and ssh access to my servers. A cell phone is a personal device and a single account makes sense. A desktop is often shared and always supports multiple accounts. An iPad is in between, and the ability to have multiple user accounts would make me feel much better about sharing it with family and friends. - I can lock the iPad, but it is only protected by a four digit code. I had to turn on the feature that wipes the entire system if somebody tries 10 bad codes in a row.

This would be so nice to read in the sofa, on the bus or in bed. And I wonder how it does for small presentations: looks nice to put it flat on the table. But no word yet on when it will be available in Belgium!

This is ALMOST what I wanted from Apple. It's a great device for the user looking for a light netbook type product, but Apple did miss out on some awesome opportunities to make this THE tablet (I mean, Apple is known as the product for "creative" people), why not allow stylus drawing? Photo editing? Movie editing? For the price point and the target market, though, this is ideal.

If you have a desktop at home and you need something to check your emails, read books, and surf the net this item is great; however, it does not necessarily replace a laptop as it misses some of the capabilities of a laptop and its just not as powerful. If you need to do simple things its a great item! What do you get between a laptop and an iPhone? An iPad!

I am really enjoying my Apple iPad. I bought the iPad 2 the day it came out -- I didn't have to stand in line for too long. My favorite apps are: *Flipboard *Wunderlist *OmniFocus (for GTD) *Notetaker HD (best with a stylus) *Moodboard (for creating vision boards for projects, web or household) *Sketchbook (for sketching wireframes)
