Before I went to gouache I was a marker kind of girl. I would often go back to markers from time to time and now may be one of those times. Prismacolors are the best markers, they colors are vibrant and they are very inky. Each marker has a wide tip at one end and a thin tip on the other. These markers aren't cheap so make sure you put the cap on them or else you are just throwing money down the toilet. There are about a zillion shades of these bad boys too. I recommend buying a starter kit like this and adding on single markers as you need them.
