The soundtrack to this film is so much fun, and beautiful. Very Parisian. Relaxing too. It's worth a listen. See Yann Tiersen performing by clicking the via YouTube link. (via youtube.com)

Composed by Yann Tiersen, chances are you've heard this soundtrack in a coffee shop or cafe even if you didn't recognize it, so charming is the score to the award-winning 2001 film Amelie. The score mixes strings, vocals, piano and accordian for an undeniably Parisian sound and perfectly captures the whimsy, charm and quirkiness of the film. Let yourself get lost in it.

Liked the movie Amélie? Chances are you liked the soundtrack as well, at least subconsciously.

This is the full soundtrack from the movie. It was all composed by the French musician Yann Tiersen, who can uses everything from accordions to toy pianos to get his songs across. Most of these songs were actually composed before the movie was even conceived.

The songs here capture some of Tiersen's more French (accordions and such) side, but there are some beautiful piano pieces as well. Everything is good, but here is what I recommend:

La Valse de Amélie - you will like it - it's simply beautiful
Comptine d'un Autre etre: L'Apres Midi - pure, genius like simplicity
Le Moulin - his classic, simple style, with a more grandiose end
Sure Le Fil - a simple beginning with a sweeping, goose-bump inducing type end.

I recommend checking out his other albums as well. They do no all contain the 'French' sound present here, so be forewarned. But they are all beautifully creative and artistically unique.
