Wow. This. Rocks.
I just received mine as a gift and have loved playing with it so far. My son Ian and I built the first robot in about 1/2 an hour. Ian was able to pick up how to program it in their visual language in just a few minutes, even though he has never programmed anything before. He built a robot that drives forwards until it hits something, says "oops, sorry", backs up and spins around runs right into the obstacle again. It does this until you get annoyed enough to turn it off.
I had considered trying to teach my kids how to program using the old programming language Logo. In spirt and in use, the visual language for the Mindstorms is a good replacement -- being able to play sounds really makes everything a lot more fun.

It's another build-it-yourself robit. This one if from LEGO though. It featured 577 specially selected elements, 3 interactive servo motors and much much more.

This is a LEGO toy that introduces kids to robot programming. LEGO has also open sourced the firmware and developer kits so this is also a fun toy for a slightly more advanced programmer as well. Great for adults and kids alike. Bluetooth capable! Create your own special LEGO robot pet! Reacts to sounds, lights, and touch!
