Even if you’re not an illustrator, these tablets come in handy when you are trying to achieve a more organic feel to your work. Definitely start with the consumer version and if you love it, then upgrade to a pro version.

I never knew I could digitally draw until I discovered Wacom tablets. In a digital design death match, Wacom would whoop the regular 'ol mouse every time.

A drawing tablet that is a life-saver when having to do detailed clipping paths or lots of painting in Photoshop.

Everyone should learn how to use the pen feature on a Wacom tablet. I believe it will slowly rid the world on carpal tunnel. Speaking of carpal tunnel it was the reason why I was willing spend over $200 for my Wacom tablet. It was truly getting unbearable for me to use a mouse for my art work. My wrist was going numb and I knew it would be only a matter of time before I wouldn't be able to do any work. Since purchasing a Wacom life has indeed gotten better. I can work for hours on end without the fear of carpal tunnel creeping up on me. Another great thing about using the pen is there's less clicking noise so less disturbance to any neighbors (coworkers, significant others) around you. Making the Wacom pen become your natural mouse will take a bit of practice but in the end it's all worth it! You'll find yourself stressing your wrist much less.

Being a graphic designer myself. I own the Graphire intuios 3 w/6x8 work area. It's awesome. It's my second one. I really abused my first one, and this one is taking quite the abuse ( dropped, spilled soda on ect ) as well and keeps on ticking. I highly recommend this for ANY graphic artist. It's my best friends and I don't know what I would do without it. Acutally, I wouldn't know HOW to live without it.
