Ok, so here's how this one went down:
I've been running into some of my old Northwestern college buddies on Facebook lately. I noticed on one of their pages that he ("he" being my friend Geoff) had started a bakery in Georgia with mail-order service. Interesting. Unexpected. The last time our plastic cups crossed beer streams at a kegger, he was the lead singer in one of the coolest bands ever, Lime Credo. But as usual, I digress.
The point is that I didn't know he was now of the baking persuasion, having missed the news that he had 'come out of the kitchen,' so to speak. The straight kitchen, I should add. He started this bakery with his wife and sister-in-law.
"I should help a good guy out and rec it on TN," I thought to myself, ignoring the voice in my head that was laughing at the way I had bestowed cyber power and influence on myself. "Yes, yes that is JUST what I should do!"
I then promptly got distracted and forgot. As usual.
What reminded me of my benevolent intentions were the random comments that started appearing in the Facebook newsfeed from mutual friends.... comments praising this mighty, magical bread of Geoff's from people who have eaten it. "Oh yeah," said I, "I wanted to see if I could help him out on TN."
So I went to the bakery's site. And found further proof that Geoff and his bread gang don't need MY help. They're doing quite well on their own. The Today Show and Food Network have already beaten me to the punch, for starters. It turns out that 'hottie-band-guy-from-college' bakes a hell of a loaf, one that is being recognized all over the country by people who know about such things.
So I guess it's not Geoff that I'm doing a favor for with this, it's any of you who are looking for a fabulous gift for a friend or treat for yourself. Just check out the bread descriptions and I think you'll realize what I just did- from the witty prose to the tantalizing flavors, this isn't your ordinary 'it's just a gesture' gift. It is, quite simply, kickass bread.
Double dog dare you not to try one after reading the site's descriptions:
from Breadwinner's site:
Breads are baked fresh and are professionally sealed in an FDA-approved cellophane bag and tied with a beautiful ribbon that reflects the taste of the season. (Think orange for pumpkin bread.)
The Loaf Line-Up:
"Bréadage à Trois" 3-pack: Parlez-vous bread? Three IS company when you snuggle this trio together in the perfect gift bed... eh, box. Delectable Mocha Chocolate Chip, our fabulous Sweet Home Ala-banana and charming Papa Don't Peach make a combination worthy of some pillow talk.
"Papa Don't Peach" Peach Bread: You're in trouble deep... You've been charmed by our fresh sliced peaches and homemade peach sweet tea glaze. You'll be losing sleep thinking about that smooth, sweet, southern loaf of love. It puts the peach in Georgia Peach.
"Party At My Place" Pumpkin Bread: This is the bread that got Cinderella to the ball on time. It has the perfect blend of spices and a taste that leaves you speechless. Undeniable.
"Better Than a Bubble Bath" Mocha Chocolate Chip Bread: Everything's in a name. Oh, and we'd like to add, right when it comes out of the oven, we sprinkle toffee all over the top.
"Frankly, My Dear, I Don't Give a Cran" Cranberry Orange Bread: Rhett Butler's kiss isn't the only thing that will make you faint. Our Cranberry Orange bread will do it too. These plump scarlet berries and fresh oranges will make your mouth pucker with delight.
"Houdini" Zucchini Bread: It has disappearing power. Perfect with your morning cup of joe or a mid-day snack, it's the first zucchini bread EVER to yum your tum.
"Sweet Home Ala-Banana" Banana Bread: There are four fresh bananas in each and every loaf of this southern family recipe. We're not monkeying around.
"Lemon Poppy-razzi" Bread: Available Spring '09; With its lemon juice glaze and other-worldly lemon taste, our Lemon Poppy-razzi Bread is more irresistible than a red carpet shot of Marilyn Monroe. You'll be chasing it down!
"Shofar So Good" Apple Honey Bread: Oy vay! It may not have an MD behind its name, but bring this bread home to mom, and she'll be thrilled. This cinnamon swirled, apple and honey laden bread is perfect for your holiday celebrations or anytime.
"Be Still My Beating Tart" Lemon Blueberry Bread: Will be back next Summer. Pucker up and take a bite out of this summer sensation. Fresh squeezed lemon juice and blueberries the size of Montana put this bread above that Italian villa you've been eyeing.
