Joshua Tree (Remastered / Expanded) (Super Deluxe Edition) (2CD/DVD): U2
The album that broke America, rightfully so, now with tons of extra stuff. The first CD is the remastered version of the classic album. Everyone knows the first three songs, as they were the mega-singles: "Where the Streets Have No Name", "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", but for me, the real magic happens after this. "Running to Stand Still" is simple and gorgeous in its sad majesty. "In God's Country", "Red Hill Mining Town", and "Trip Through Your Wires" are great rock songs, sparse in production but in a way that's open and expansive, much like the desert sky seen in the photographs for the album. The second CD is full of extras, from some new orriginal songs "Walk on the Water", "Race Against Time" etc, but also different versions of some great classic songs and B-Sides. I love that "Silver and Gold" is on there, since it's probably one of my favorite overlooked U2 tracks, and "Sweetest Thing" as well. There's also a DVD, with live performances of classic songs, from "I Will Follow" to "Exit" (a rarity which is great to see).
If you're looking for a gift for Father's Day, and he's a U2 fan… look no further. This box set is a masterpiece.
U2 is a classic - my Dad loves them. They're not so bad in concert either.
