I love Yael Naim's enchanting tune from the Apple Mac Air commercial! (via Amazon)

I'm hooked on the song almost as much as the super rich, super thin piece of art that goes with it.

So everyone heard the 'I'm a New Soul' single from the Macbook Air commercial. But I recommend checking out the rest of the CD as well, from Israeli singer-songwriter Yael Naim.

The tracks are just so refreshingly new - very original; nothing like the same old pop played over and over again. She even has some songs in Hebrew, which is a very interesting language to sing in I think, it's sonically pleasing and different (and easier to understand; Hebrew isn't too complicated).

Her voice isn't extremely versatile in range or type but she does her darn best to make you think it is, and it usually works. Her Hebrew accented English is also very cute sounding. I like the way she experiments in her songs; while there is repetition it doesn't follow a standard chorus-verse track. Certainly a very interesting CD.

Some of my favorites:

Paris - Groovy, cool song about Paris in Hebrew. She also mixes some French in at the end. Follows an old ballad, 40's type style but she mixes in some modern, Norah Jones type singing to make it more interesting. Cool.

Too Long - a bit long :) but some interesting English lyrics and slightly new age feel.

New Soul - Really charming. Her accent is very cute and adds to the song. The lyrics are quite fitting and the song is really uplifting, which is rare.

Lonely - Maybe not for everyone, but sort of like a ballad. What's interesting is her seamless switches between ballad, upbeat, and Israeli/Mid-Eastern scales and tones.
Interesting lyrics too. Very cool artistically and musically, and a good listen.

Far Far - Another charmer. some really pretty lyrics, and overall a rather pretty song. A bit catchy.

7 Baboker - (7 in the Morning) Really Israeli, Hebrew sound, so very cool to my American ears. Well made song.

Pachad - Catchy ballad with cool toning, sometimes dissonant, sometimes Israeli, sometimes western. A bit of a gem I think.

I really like the way she seems to experiment throughout the whole CD. She's seems a bit genre defying, which I always like. Cool CD.
