As a general rule of thumb, I try and read a book before I see the film. Unfortunately, I hadn't quite finished reading before I had my chance to see it.
Anyway, if you are a fan of the vampire genre and looking for something different and more original --- this is your read. The story of Oskar, a much bullied 12-year old that meets, Eli. A child of ambiguous gender, smells like death warmed over and only comes out at night.
What ensues is an at times graphic depiction of horror --- what humans do to other humans, and what we all know vampires can do. It's a story filled with cruelty, love and redemption.
Enough Twillight already! This book can be a bit long, but it's worth it, and a wonderful companion to the film. (via amazon.com)
