An arresting combination of sense and nonsense that would sit well at conferences and weddings alike, the Louis straight-back chair from the Italian company Aitali features an image of a Louis XVI period chair printed on Altuglass, a transparent plastic purer than plexiglass. Thanks to state-of-the-art technologies, a computer generated graphic of the exploded parts of a silk damask side chair have been inkjet-printed on the backside and undersides of the chair. Reverse printing, along with UV-safe inks, also protects the image from scratches and sun damage.
Other models range widely in imagery, including a slatted lawn chairs (the acrylic version is not collapsible), bar codes, a child’s drawings and even fur. Custom designs are available. The company recently re-interpreted Salvador Dali’s <i>Hallucinogenic Toreador</i> in a 300-piece limited edition for the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. (via Elements of Living)
