  As much as I love layering clothing, I get an even bigger thrill from cleverly layered meanings. This book is perhaps the best example of such layering I have seen this year. "Deus ex machine" is a literary term, a reference to a former movement of motorcyclists and the name of a thriving custom bike business with outposts in Australia, Indonesia and (soon) Venice, California. This book captures this cycle-driven zeitgeist in text and color photography.
