Dottore Peste Artistico
Traditional Venetian hand made and decorated paper mache mask. In Medieval this mask was used by Venetian plague doctors as a disguise when they visited people afflicted with plague. The mask with the long beak is made to keep in it substances and aromas that it was believed would have protected the doctor from getting contaminated from the plague. Hand painted illustration of the Medieval Doctor in the whole gown embellishes this mask’s face.
So I was a plague doctor last halloween. Got the mask in Italy too. Not as elaborate as this one, but no one got it. Everyone came up to me and asked, "Hey, you're from Eyes Wide Shut, right?". Sigh.
