American Lawn Mower Company 18-Inch Reel Mower
A recommendation by Kristine
Kristine's recommendation
Accoridng to MSNBC, push mowers has increased to 350,000 sold per year, which is 100,000 more sold than 5 years previous. The American Lawn Mower Company believes it's due to eco-conscious consumer.
I have one of these at home. My gardener tends to forget certain portions of my yard, so I had this neat idea of mowing those areas myself. Well, I couldn't figure ouit how to use it, so I gave up and bought a weedeater. I'm so lame. (Hey, it has a safety mechanism that locks. It is tricky to unlock without the instructions manual, which I conveniently lost, of course.)
Still, I love the push mower. It's such a classic. (via msnbc)

Time to start pushing and stop using gas! Or go with a cordless electric mower if your lawn is on the big side.

I've been wanting one of these for years (my next door neighbors used to have one). Sustainable living at its best, and good exercise to boot!

If you're not a groundskeeper at a ballpark—i.e. you have a normal lawn—a big, noisy, expensive, gas-reliant lawnmower is SO unnecessary. It's not much more effort to push, and if you need an external reason, reel mowers snip the grass, cutting each blade like a pair of scissors, while rotary mowers tear at the grass, leaving them open to disease.

30 minutes of mowing is like driving a car for 90 minutes.
I have one of these, and it works pretty well. Quiet, too! (via scottsmith)

Not only a great workout, this mower also easily spreads around a nice layer of simple mulch.
