Neil Gaiman is an amazing writer and an intriguing individual. American Gods was the first book that I read by Gaiman and I have since inhaled every Neil Gaiman book/comic I can get my hands on! In American Gods Gaiman weaves mythologies from various cultures together to create a smart, humorous, and meaningful epic story. I love it!

Neil Gaiman is always a good bet for compelling fantasy fiction, but this is one of my favorites. This story imagines the old gods living in North America undercover having to fight the influence of the new gods of technology and the Internet. I love the premise and lost myself in this book easily. Not deep, but fun.

I listened to the audible version of this book. If I had started the paperback book, I'm sure I would have tossed it after the first chapter, but when you're on a long commute, you take what you can get so I stuck with it. I'm glad I did. Though American Gods is far from the type of book I would normally read, once I understood where Gaiman was coming from I really enjoyed the story and probably learned a bit without knowing it.
