boing this is a great film

It's taken me a while to recommend this film. I just wasn't sure how I was going to approach it. It isn't a devastating frightening or perfectly executed film by any means, but definitely one worth noting.

A lot of people would consider it a horror movie. I would not. It's really more of a thriller or crime drama. It is a disturbing meditation on the mind and methods of a serial killer. The thing that stood out for me were the production values. The thematic nature of the killings revolve around The Seven Deadly Sins. The way in which they are depicted in the film are grotesquely, gruesomely and creatively brilliant. I'm not easily grossed out having been an ex-autopsy assistant. So, it takes a lot to impress me. The gritty realism was superb, messed up and accurate. All of the things I look for in this type of depiction. It made for an entertaining and disturbing ride.

The acting, including the lead performances by Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Gwenyth Paltrow were solid.

Most viewers aren't going to be as desensitized as I am. So, this flick may shake you to your core on some levels. Go on rent it... I dare you.

Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are the detectives who skillfully track down the killer--all the while unaware that he has been closing in on them, as well. Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey are also featured, but it is director Fincher and the ominous, overwhelmingly oppressive atmosphere of doom that he creates that are the real stars of the film.
